FOOD Safety Seminar for a BETTER Service

Food safety is a responsibility that is shared by us all producers, processors, distributors, retailers, and consumers. We as consumers must be concerned about the following food safety issues. The public must demand safe food, for there are countless ways that our food can become contaminated between the time it is produced and prepared.Food safety is a responsibility that is shared by us all producers, processors, distributors, retailers, and consumers. To address the issue, a Food Safety Seminar was conducted on February 2, 2017 at CSU-SM Conference Hall. This is to provide the participants basic information on food handling and preparation and to ensure quality service through the delivery of healthy, clean and safe foods.

The Department of Science and Technology through the Provincial Science and Technology Center (DOST-PSTC) – Cagayan, in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Sanchez Mira (LGU-SM) and the Cagayan State University-Sanchez Mira initiated the event.

More than sixty (60) canteen, restaurant, food house, food cart owners and operators; housekeepers; and service providers and assistants participated in the said seminar.

The Provincial Directors of DOST-PSTC Cagayan – Ms. Nora T. Garcia, BS Chemistry major in Foods ; and Engr. Sylvia T. Lacambra, BS Chemical Engineer, the speakers on GMP and Food Safety seminar, emphasized that food safety and hygiene are crucial to reducing the risk of food-borne illnesses that may cause through biological hazards such as pathogenic bacteria, viruses, and parasites, or chemical hazards or natural toxins.
