CCJA spearheads Seminar on Crime Operations

M. S. Atayan · April 6th, 2017

The College of Criminal Justice Administration (CCJA), in collaboration with the Scene of the Crime Operation (SOCO) – Cagayan spearheaded a seminar on crime operations last March 31-April 2, 2017 at the Cagayan State University – Sanchez Mira gymnasium.

The three-day seminar which was attended by CCJA students aims to acquaint and familiarize the students of the college on the actual procedures in investigating as well as in creating an avenue for students’ holistic development.

“We simply want to expose our students on the actual crime scenario explained by the theories taught within the four corners of the classroom”, said Mr. Melvin S. Atayan, CCJA Dean, in an interview.
“…of course through SOCO who are experts on these matters, it could be a great help for our students since this allows them to learn the actual application of crime scene operations apart from what is taught in the classroom,” he added.

On the first two days of the seminar, SPO2 Boy Turingan, Senior Police Investigator of Sanchez Mira Police Station and PCI Francis Romulo Villaflor of the SOCO-Lallo discussed Basic Criminal Investigation and SOCO Operations, respectively.

The last day was a demonstration and simulation on Crime Scene Processing by the SOCO team which allowed the students to be exposed on crime scene procedures.

Most students appreciated the seminar and many remarked that there should be more seminars like what was conducted because activities like those expose criminology students in the real world of future police officers.
