June 23, 2017 marked the start of an incredibly exciting time for Cagayan State University-Sanchez Mira as it breaks the ground of its 5.5 million Farmers’ Training Center.

Presided by Rev. Fr.  Antonio Calauit, SVD, the ceremony started with a recital of an invocation, singing of a song of praise, and it ended with the blessing of the location with Holy Water. The ritual followed with the pulling down to the dug hole of the copy of the building perspective and its floor plan. The pouring to the hole of the chicken blood, wine and water, and the offering of rice, salt, and eggs placed in a clay pot came next.

The time-honored practice of shovelling and hurling of cement to the dug hole was done by the University President Dr. Urdujah A. Tejada, CSU-SM CEO Dr. Narcitas B. Ouano, CSU Carig CEO Engr. Arthur Ibanez, University Infrastructure Director Engr. Ernesto Marallag, SM Agriculture Dean Froilan Pacris Jr. and SM Graduate School Dean Rodel T. Alegado.

Meanwhile, the Farmers’ Training Center houses two training rooms with folded partition to be just one big hall to accommodate bigger number of participants during trainings.  It has also an audio room, an office, two big bedrooms with kitchen, dining and living areas, and two wide comfort rooms for male and female.

The Center which primarily serves as venue for trainings and seminars for farmers at Nagbaranganan is an attempt of the administration to bring back the might that the 100-hectare lot owned by CSU had at its old site before the insurgency in the 1980’s. Also, it is an effort of the university to extend to the farmers in the community its resources to fully achieve its commitment inscribed in its mission to transform the lives of people and communities.
