An Integrated Agri-Food Park (IAFP), a commercialscale one-stop-site for agricultural post-production and processing of agriculture-based food products, will soon rise in the old site of CSU-Sanchez Mira at Sitio Nagbaranganan, Centro 02, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, after the series of activities relative to the implementation of the convergence initiative in the 2nd Congressional District of Cagayan was approved by the Regional Convergence Initiative Technical Working Group II (RCITWG II) last 7 August 2017 and its presentation and approval by the Alternate National Steering Committee Principals last 13 September 2017 at DAR Central Office.

The establishment of AIFP is one of the features of the Regional Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development II (RCI-SRD II) under Agro-Forestry Abundance and Productivity using Integrated Technologies through Barangaybased Agricultural Ventures and Advancement (AgAPIT-BAVA) Convergence Area Development Plan (CADP). This is initiated by the Representative of the 2nd Congressional District of Cagayan, Hon. Baby Aline Vargas-Alfonso, because of her strong determination to have a convergence area in her constituency district which she perceived as a qualified drive towards modernizing the agriculture sector.

CSU-SM is chosen as the convergence site of the municipalities under the convergence area namely: Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Pamplona and Abulug, not only in the issue of landholdings, but in providing needed support services. The site has more than 100 hectares of forested area, 60 hectares of which can be developed into an agricultural area while 40 hectares can be developed for ecotourism. At present, tropical fruit trees production is under way, and there is an existing small water impounding irrigation system within the area. As the first one-stop-site and state-of-the-art agricultural production, consolidation, and processing site in Region 02, the AIFP will be composed of these 7 major provisions: (1) Agroindustrial Economic Zone, (2) Support Infrastructures/ Industries/ Communities, (3) Leased Sites for Holding/Warehousing of Agricultural Products and Raw Materials, (4) Leased Sites for Industrial Farms, (5) Residential, Commercial and Entertainment Centers, (6) Public Transport System and Terminals/ Stations, and (7) Road Networks and Utilities. The IAFP shall administer itself on economic, financial, industrial, tourism development and other matters within the exclusive competence of CSU.

The said project is envisioned to be completed within five years, from 2018 to 2022, with a proposed budget of PhP333.5 M. Funding sources are DA, DAR, DILG, DOT, DTI, DOST, DPWH, TESDA, NHA, DOE, NAWASA, CEZA, NCI-SRD, CSU, Office of the 2nd Congressional District of Cagayan, NGOs, and Private Sectors.
