SIRMATA Phase II: CICS Extension Project on the go

The Extension project of the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) titled “Basic ICT Literacy for Coconut Farmers in the Municipality of Sanchez Mira” conducted a training—workshop among the farmers and barangay officials of Centro-02, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan. This extension project reaches out the coconut farmers and extends informal education and literacy on Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The training-workshop which was extended to about 30 trainees commenced last March 11, 2017 and a closing program was held on July 07, 2017. Every Saturday since the orientation, lecture and hands-on training were held at the computer laboratory of the CICS building until the completion of the 10-day training-workshop.

The experts who lectured on Basic Computer Applications like Microsoft Office Application (word, power point, excel, and publisher), Photo Editing using Photoshop, Video and Music Editing and Internet Technology to among these farmers and barangay officials as beneficiaries of the program include: Mrs. Grace Callitong (the College Extension Coordinator), Mrs. Lourdes Padirayon, Ms. Jumeriz Tabuso, Miss Rona Yago, Miss Christina Aquino, Mrs. Rachel Bumagat, Mr. Daniel Ursulum, and Mr. John Ace Tumaneng.

During the closing program, the dean of the college Dr. Freddie P. Masuli expressed his thanks to the trainees for embracing the extension program of the college.

Dr. Cacacho, who was also present during the closing program uttered that their being old aged, and that their being born in a different generation should not be a reason for them not to learn the modern technological advancement that the millenials of today are enjoying.
“Sobrang thankful kami dahil nagkaroon ng ganitong programa and CSU-SM through the CICS. Dahil dito, ang dami naming natutunan lalo na sa amin na medyo may edad na.”, said Hon. Grace Reyes, one of the Barangay Councilors during the closing program.

Certificate of Completion was given to each trainee. As a token of gratitude, a simple gift was also handed in to the college by the Barangay Officials of Centro 02, Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.
